since I am not supposed to drive the Tahoe only for short distances (such as making groceries 5 km to and 5 km back), this car is just for that purpose, and for whenever it seems inappropriate to drive up in the street tank … or when the Tahoe does not even run :(

For that, the Sierra was (intentionally) dirt-cheap to buy, is very cheap in taxes and insurance, and has “character”. Had this one not worked out, I might of gone for a 95 Peugeot 306 XT (but de-registered, can’t even test-drive: no wonder the -nice- guy has been sitting on it for 6+ months) or a 93 BMW 316i Compact (from a dealership) in the same price range.

I wanted something with a trunk again for a change; this one is not too big and yet not too small for the city, has a ‘boxy” design I like, and is said to be very reliable (chain in the engine instead of a belt, service records, etc). Even has A/C :)

However, getting license plates for it in Berlin is a bit of an ordeal; even with the car club (ADAC) service it takes a week; at least the plates cost only 15€ for both through them (instead of 35-45€ at all the shops across the reg office).

And I got an easy to remember plate:
BBQ 281 …
BBQ 481 … is the Tahoe :)

It is the little things that make me happy :)
The big things work themselves out.
